About Thalpea
Made by people who have had this exact Tuesday.
Thalpea makes comfort for period days. We started with the thing we kept wishing existed: the warmth of a heating pad, in something you can wear out the door and forget about.
Why heat
Steady warmth on the lower belly relaxes the muscle that is cramping and eases the pain that comes with it. In a published trial, continuous low-level heat worked about as well as ibuprofen for period pain (Akin et al., 2001). It does not work for everyone: roughly one in six people say heat does little for their cramps. If that is you, a patch will not change it. If pain is stopping your life, please see a doctor.
What we make
Air-activated heat patches that stick to the outside of your underwear, not your skin. Open the pouch, press it on, get dressed. It warms in about twenty minutes and stays warm for hours: warm enough to work, not hot enough to burn. No drugs, no fragrance, nothing on your skin. A box of ten covers about two cycles.
XL back wraps, for the days it wraps around to your lower back, come next. A night product after that, because a patch is a day thing and the label says not to sleep in one.
How we choose a patch
Before a patch goes in our box, we tape a thermometer to it and log the temperature for eight hours. We keep the ones that hold their warmth longest without running hot. If a patch does not warm, we replace the box. No return, no form.
What we will not do
- Promise a cramp-free day. Heat helps most people. It does not cure anything.
- Put anything on your skin. The patch sits on fabric.
